Character and emphasis The LOKV / Nederlands Instituut voor Kunsteducatie was founded in 1984 as the national institute dedicated to stimulate arts education and art-appreciation and to support its teaching. Its Information and Documentation Centre consists among other things of the Data Bank for Art and Arts Education and the Library/Project Bank. The Data Bank for Art and Arts Education comprises a computerized collection providing full information on the visual and performing arts programmes aimed at children and young people offered in the Netherlands; the Library/Project Bank holds a specialized collection in the field of arts education, including both Dutch and foreign books, reports and papers on practical, theoretical and policy-making aspects of the field, and documentation of individual institutions for arts education and the amateur arts.

Special collections

  • The Project Bank for Arts Education is a special collection within the library, making available Dutch and foreign material from teaching practice in art education: about 2,000 project reports, teaching materials and activity models relating to programmes practised in primary and secondary schools or in institutions for arts education.
