Character and emphasis The Nederlands Foto Instituut was founded in 1993 to promote the use and knowledge of photography as an independent medium. It achieves this aim by organizing exhibitions and by establishing a collection of documentation on Dutch photography, photojournalism, and photography used in other visual arts, in particular since 1945. The library of the Foto Instituut administers the documentation of Dutch photographers with an emphasis on living artists, whose works are present on CD-ROMs and slides, and serves as an intermediary between commissioners and photographers. The library possesses a very comprehensive collection of periodicals on modern photography (after 1930).
