Character and emphasis Museum Het Valkhof is a merger of two museums: the former Nijmeegs Museum Commanderie van Sint Jan (1974-1998) for fine and modern arts and the former Provinciaal Museum G.M. Kam (1922-1998) for Roman provincial archaeology. Since September 1999 the new museum is open to the public. As a result of this merger Museum Het Valkhof houses two libraries. The archaeological library is housed at the Gelders Archeologisch Centrum, while the art-historical library is housed in the main building of the museum itself. The Reading Room Jan Terlouw is open to the public for consultation of the library collection. The library collections reflect the museum's holdings: Roman provincial archaeology, the fine arts in relation to Nijmegen and it's surrounding area, as well as modern arts from 1950 onwards.
