Character and emphasis The Centrum voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie is created by merging the slide and the photographs departments. Its main areas of collecting are classical archaeology, early Christian art, medieval art, miniatures, Christian architecture and art in Germany and Italy.
Special collections
- Brom Collection: the photographs and reproductions archives of the precious metals workshop of the Brom family, active in Utrecht 1856-1961
- Sibbelee Collection: over 15.000 photographs made between ca. 1940 and 1987 by the Dutch photographer Hans Sibbelee. He worked for Prof. F. van der Meer, and focussed on European architecture and sculpture.
- The Verspaandonk Collection: a collection photographs
of misericordes and other details of choir stalls in Western Europe by J.
Verspaandonk

- The Courtauld Institute Illustration Archives: reproductions of mediaeval architecture
- Several collections on Christian iconography: Gerlach Archives, Snijders Archives, Hönes Collection
- The Decimal Index of the Lower Countries (DIAL): a collection of black-and-white reproductions of Netherlandish art, published by the RKD
- Documentation archives on microfiche: the Marburger Index, the Index Photographique de l'Art en France, the Schweiz Index, the Österreich Index, the Spanien und Portugal Index, the Alinari Photo Archives, the Villani-Archives
