Character and emphasis The Print Room of Leiden University was founded in 1814, which is why its library is rich in older literature and is particularly strong in print-albums and 19th century periodicals. The Institute for Art History, founded in 1907, has its origin in the Print Room. After World War II its books, formerly kept in the professors' rooms, were placed together to create a library. Its collection documents Western art from Early Christian times to the present day, with particular emphasis on drawing, the graphic arts and photography, and on the decorative arts.
