Character and emphasis The National Museum of Coins and Medals was founded in 1816. It has since developed into the principal collection of coins, medals and gems, paper money and seals in the Netherlands. The library supports and reflects this collection.

- In view of the early founding date of the institute, the library is particularly rich in older numismatic literature (16th-19th centuries)
