Character and emphasis The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, established in 1880, was the fifth university in the Netherlands. The separate Art History Library is housed in the main building. It is specialized in Christian iconography and in Dutch prints of the 16th century, Dutch painting of the 16th-20th centuries, and architecture and urban planning of the 19th and 20th centuries
