Direction and funding

Introduction

The subject of the OKBN afternoon symposium is: 'Direction and funding' or: which party determines if, when and how and for what projects money is earmarked for digitisation projects in the field of art and art documentation? The meeting is the concluding part of a five-day excursion to the Netherlands of twenty art librarians from the United States. The American approach to digitisation projects is conceived by the Dutch organizing committee as being different from the Dutch or European one. Is that assumption correct? Perhaps after having heard the five speakers this afternoon we will have an answer to that question. Who are the players and which institutions benefit in the United States? Are the Dutch and the European situation similar to that, and how do they compare to one another? Three papers give bird's eyes views, two of the papers are more mundane: if one has a good idea for a digitisation project, where does one seek funding?
